As both an artist and a Korean language teacher, I wanted to create something truly special for my students and language learners everywhere. I’ve seen firsthand how challenging learning a new alphabet can be, which is why I poured my classroom experience and my own original art into this poster. Every single illustration on this print was hand-drawn by me to make learning Korean feel warm, intuitive, and completely accessible.

How the Animal Association Works

To make learning effortless for English speakers, I carefully selected and illustrated animals whose English names start with the exact phonetic sound of the corresponding Korean consonant. This creates an instant mental shortcut:

 ㄱ (makes a 'g' sound) is represented by a Gorilla 

 ㄴ (makes an 'n' sound) is represented by a Narwhal 

 ㄷ (makes a 'd' sound) is represented by a Dinosaur 

 ㄹ (makes an 'r' sound) is represented by a Red Squirrel

 ㅁ  (makes an 'm' sound) is represented by a Manatee

…..

By looking at the illustration, your brain instantly connects the familiar English starting letter of the animal to the Korean character's pronunciation.
